• Notes

  He was made a freeman of the colony on May 2, 1732; signed a petition against lotteries on January 16th, 1733. Being influential in public affairs, he represented the town of Glocester in the General Assembly from 1736 - 1766; a justice of the Court of Common Pleas for the County of Providence for 34 years; chief justice 1782 - 84. At Glocester he was president of the Town Council for about 40 years; town clerk for 60 years, having this position from June of 1737 until the day of his death.
