• Notes

  Arthur had a Ph.D. in soil science and worked at Camp Detrick in Frederick, Maryland during the war. He met Jean R. Clawson there (who also had a Ph.D. in microbiology). There are family stories about Agent Orange, LSD, death of a friend by suicide (fed unknowingly LSD by the government). Arthur eventually moved to Bethesda, Maryland where he rose to the highest level in government ranks, being eventually the sole person to evaluate USDA grants related to soil science.
