      Olaf Gothfrithson died in 941. The peace between the Danes and the Engl i s h d i d n ot last, and in 944 Olaf Sihtricsson was driven from Northumbr i a , r e t urning to Ireland where, in the years 943 - 944 the Danish settl e m e n t a t Dublin was under repeated attack by the Irish of Leinster.       Olaf & his [first] wife had [two] children: #1. [ S I H T R IC (-after 967). The Annals of the Four Masters record in 967 tha t " C e a n annas was plundered by Sitric, son of Amhlaeibh, lord of the for ei g n e r s, and by Murchadh, son of Finn, king of Leinster; but Domhnall U a N e i l l k ing of Ireland overtook and defeated them??[1282]. It is unli ke l y t h a t this passage refers to Sihtric King of Dublin, son of Olaf, w h o i s n a m ed below. King Sihtric's death is recorded in 1042, which app e a rs i n c onsistent with his participation in a battle fought in 967. It i s t h e r e fore probable that this Sihtric was an older son of King Olaf wh o d i e d s o on after 967. Another possibility is that there is an error i n t h e t e x t and that "Sitric son of Amhlaebh" should read "Amhlaebh son o f S i t r i c".] #2. R�GNALD (-killed in battle Temair [978/80]). Orkneyinga Saga records that Sigurd J a r l o f O r kney went to Ireland "five years after the Battle of Svoldur" t o s u p p o rt "King Sigtrygg Silk-Beard" against "King Brian of Ireland", a nd l e f t " h is elder sons in charge of the earldom", but was killed in th e b a t t l e in which King Brian was killed[1295].
