    • Richard was very involved in local governance and was a Captain of the militia when he served in King William's War in 1697. He was in the Upper House as Governor's Assistant for several years, and served as Deputy to Rhode Island General Assembly in 1671,1676, 1679-1681, 1696, 1698, 1700-02, 1805, and 1807-08. He served as Speaker of the House of Deputies in 1707-08, and Member of the Providence Town Council in 1700-01.

      He built a sawmill in Woonsocket, Rhode Island in 1680 and, in 1700 built one in Providence on the Woonasquatucket River, five miles above the salt water harbor.

      On 24 Oct 1666 Richard and Mary fined 40s each for fornication by the General Court of Trials in Newport. [RICR 11:51
