  • Notes
    • He was born in Holland in 1620. He came to New Amsterdam, 1639, went t o Fort Orange (now Albany, NY), as a Corporal, advanced to Wachtmeester ( quartermaster) of the fort. Albany 1639-92. Trader, moved to NYC, 1692. O ne of the first 5 patentees of Schenectady, 1684, (Gov Dongan) though h e probably never lived there. He had 5 bouweries and a village lot (Uni on and Washington Sts).

The only clue to his origins is that he was said to be "of Hitlant" in h is marriage record. That was a Dutch name for the Shetland Islands. The re were documented Teller families living there at the time, so very po ssibly his origins will someday be found there.
