Previous research like the Nathan Henry Jones' Sons of the American Revolution Application, Bond and other authors (see below), have suggested that Lewis J Jones was married to Ann Stone, daughter of Simon Stone. But this is unlikely. Ann Stone was born too late, about 1624, to be the wife of Lewis Jones, and Simon Stone\'s September 1665 will does not mention his daughter Ann, indicating that she had died earlier.[1] Other researchers have suggested Ann Cooper. Lewis Jones was born in about 1600. He married Ann before about 1636. Her maiden name is open to interpretation. Lewis Jones immigrated to New England in 1640, settling first at Roxbury, Massachusetts. In 1640, he joined the church at Roxbury, of which Rev. John Eliot was the pastor. He lived in \"the Nookes\" contiguous to Dorchester, not far from \"Roxbury brook.\" He removed from Roxbury to Watertown in about 1650. [2] On 23 Apr 1679 Lewis sold 3 acres of land, bounded with the farm land of Holden and \"the great Fresh Pond surrounding the same\" to Justinian Holden for 12 cords of wood.[3] He left a will dated 7 January 1678 in Watertown, Massachusetts. With his mark. His estate valued 62.2 £. A codicil dated 19 Apr 1682. Will proved 14 Jun 1684. The will mentions wife Anna, sons Shubael and Josiah, and daughter Lydia Whitney. Son Josiah executor, friend and brother John Stone overseer.[4] Lewis Jones died 11 April 1684 in Watertown, Massachusetts.[5] Children with wife Anna (died 1 May 1680): 1. Lydia Jones b. say 1640 2. 1635 |
| Lewis and his first wife Ann, the first to come to America, are known to have been Roxbury, Mass, now a part of Boston in 1640. There is a theory that Lewis Jones came over with his pastor John Eliot in 1635 but there is no tangible proof. |
