(Most of the record above by Columbus Vennum and V.D. Allen)
James and Rebecca (Hallet) Jackson are credited with twenty children. I regret that there is so little information regarding this group of children (V.D. Allen).
William Hallet was born in the County of Doset, England in 1616, died at Flushing in 1705, age 90. His son, William Hallet was born about 1648, died Aug 18, 1729, married in about 1669 Sarah Woolsey, who was born in 1650, and who was a daughter of George Woolsey, born Oct 27, 1610 at Yarmouth, England, and said to be the son of Rev. Benjamin, and grandson of Thomas Woolsey. [George Woolsey] died Aug 17, 1698, age 87. Rebecca, daughter of William and Sarah (Woolsey) Hallet was born Aug 31, 1678.
In Arnold's "History of Rhode Island" Vol. II, page 112, is the following paragraph referring to James Jackson -- "Oct. 31, 1733... Rhode Island having a boundary dispute with Massachusetts, chose Col. Isaac Hicks of Hemstead, and James Jackson of Flushingas Referees; and was so pleased with their conduct therein that the Colony voted each of them a silver tankard of their value of fifty pounds (L 50) with the Arms of the Colony handsomely engraved thereon, as an acknowledgement of their assistance in endeavoring to reconcile and put an end to the dispute between the two governments."
James died in 1735, leaving a will dated Sep 7, 1735, and proved Oct 21, 1735 before Governor Cosby. It is recorded in the office of the surrogates of the City and County of New York in Liber 12 of wills, pages 362-366. Of his twenty children, eighteen was living at the date of his death. His second wife was Abigail, by whom he had no children.
