  Maurice is credited with building the oblong keep at Ogmore Castle; it i s p e r h a ps the oldest Norman keep in Glamorgan. Situated north of the m ai n g a t e way, the keep was the first masonry building and was probably b u il t i n t h e 1120s. It is both the castle's tallest surviving building, a n d o n e o f t he oldest buildings in South Wales.
