  In 1185, a lieutenant of Emperor Andronicus I ordered the arrest and ex e c u t i on of Isaac, but Isaac escaped and ignited a city-wide rebellion. A n d r o n icus was overthrown and murdered 12 September 1186 . Isaac was ins t a l l e d on the throne. "In 1195, Alexius Angelos, the emperor's elder brother ... proclaimed h i m s e l f emperor. Isaac was blinded and imprisoned in Constantinople . Af t e r e i g ht years, he was raised from his dungeon to his throne once more a f t e r t h e arrival of the Fourth Crusade. But his son Alexius I V was the a c t u a l m onarch. Isaac died in 1204, shortly after the usurpation of his g e n e r a l, Mourzouphles," (Chisholm, 1911).
