He probably joined his father on the Fifth Crusade in 1219, where the e l d e r d e Q uincy fell sick and died. His elder brother having died a few y e a r s e a rlier, Roger thus inherited his father's titles and properties. H o w e v e r, he did not take possession of his father's lands until February 1 2 2 1 , p r obably because he did not return to England from the crusade unt i l t h e n . He did not formally become earl until after the death of his m o t h e r i n 1235
