Private in Fincastle County Militia, Virginia, in 1774 for the Battle of Point Pleasant
Richard served in Revolutionary War under Captain Daniel Smith and under Lt William Edmondson, Dunsmore's War. Military Service 1777, Montgomery Co., VA, Militia under Captains’ Newell and Love, 1777-1790. Under Captain Love, on Sept. 7, 1780, he participated in the Battle of Kings Mountain. After his military service, Richard and family moved to Hawkins and Claiborne Counties,TN. Records of this family are found in the records of the Big Spring Baptist Church, located at Springdale, four miles southeast of Tazewell, TN, in Claiborne Co.
