  Iorwerth Hirflawdd was an ancestor of various medieval rulers in mid Wa l e s . H i s epithet means 'long trouble', but nothing is known of how he a c q u i r ed it, nor otherwise of his life. Nothing is known certainly of his life, but he must have lived in the m i d 9 t h c e ntury. Elystan Glodrydd (died c.1010), who is regarded as the f o u n d e r of the fifth Royal Tribe of Wales, was seventh in descent from h i m . H e a l so appears near the head of a dynasty of Arwystli, where he is n a m e d a s s on of Tegonwy ap Teon. Tegonwy also appears in the genealogy o f B l e d d yn ap Cynfyn, who was the ancestor of the later Princes of Powys . B l e d d yn's claim to rule came from his father Cynfyn, being a Powys no bl e m a n , Interim King of Powys and maternal grandson of the former King C a d e l l .
