  Maturin was born in Devonshire, England, between 1610 and 1620, and came to America previous to 1645, the exact date and place of his landing being unknown. He is first mentioned as a co-proprietor of Providence Plantations, Rhode Island, January 19, 1646-47. He was admitted a freeman, May 18, 1658, together with Robert Pike, who became his father-in-law, and with whom he was intimately associated all his life. Their home lots adjoined, and were located in the north part of Providence as originally settled. Various parcels of land are recorded as having been subsequently assigned to him, but further than this nothing is known of him.
