  He is said to have come from the same place at the same time as Jacob Janse and it is presumed they were brothers. The Annals of Newton by James Riker, Jr. "The family of Norstrand, or Van Norstrand, on Long Island, derive origin from Hans Jansen, who came over in 1640 from Noortstrandt in Holstein, and whose sons adopted the name of the place whence their father emigrated, which time had reduced to the present orthography. Hans. m. in 1652 Janneken Gerrits van Loon, and d. at Flatlands in 1690 THE VAN VOORHEES FAMILY IN AMERICA, The First Six Generations, compiled and edited by Florence A.
